It's cold and dreary and I absolutely LOVE it! My kind of weather. Some people yearn for tropical islands and beaches and swimming, not me. Give me cold and cloudy and rugging up and open fires and I'm in heaven. Must be something in my genes, having a Scottish mother and an English father.
Last night Andrew's sister and her family brought dinner over to where we're staying and we had a lovely catchup with Jake and Lexie, who have both grown like weeds since we saw them in Australia at the beginning of 2011. It was lovely to see the cousins playing together, it's such a shame we live so far away from each other. Andrew's parents are over here too on holiday, so the only section of the family that are missing is Jan, Col, Ella and Hudson. We really wish they were here too.
We all seem to be over the jetlag today which is great. The kids slept for 12 hours last night and we had to wake them at 9.00 this morning. Drew and I were both up before them which is so unusual. Once we got organized this morning we headed out in the car to find somewhere to have breakfast and do a little bit of grocery shopping. We found a cute little place on the canal that served up the biggest and cheapest breakfasts I've ever seen. Nothing fancy like sour dough toast or eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, just plain old full English cooked breakfast... sausage, eggs, chips, baked beans, bacon, hash browns, fried potatoes, tomato etc... but they can definitely keep the black pudding. Just the thought of that stuff makes me gag and considering the way my stomach has been for the past week that's something I'd like to avoid.
After visit to Sainsbury's to stock up on the essentials like milk, bread, juice and English Jelly Babies, we headed over the Dilton Marsh where Nicole and Rob own Dilton Vale Farm. We've had a lovely afternoon just sitting around while the kids have played together. Well, most of us have sat around except for Nicole and Marj who have been busy in the kitchen making cheesecakes and preparing food for a BBQ tonight. It's about 11 degrees here today and it seems weird to be planning a BBQ of all things. Mind you, Lexie is running around outside in a sundress so I guess it's not unusual.
Nic and Rob have grand plans for this place, hoping to turn the old barn into a wedding venue. They've converted the old stables into accommodation which is where they're living now and when time and money and planning permission allow, they'll renovate the farmhouse as well. What they've done so far is looking gorgeous and you can really see not only why they chose to buy this place but their vision of Dilton Vale Farm being a great place for weddings.
