Legoland Part 1

My turn to blog and I get the fun part....Legoland!

It was beyond awesome and staying at the brand new Legoland Hotel made the experience all the more fantastic. I'm going to do my posts in 2 parts, one about the hotel and one about the theme park itself. Blogger may explode if I add all the photos I want to in one hit!

If the outside of the hotel didn't make you excited, then the foyer certainly would. In the middle of the space is a pond filled with Lego pieces. Children were sitting in it just building whatever they wanted, it was brilliant. It was hard to get Max and Jemima out of it but the promise of more to come added a bit of incentive.

Another feature of the foyer is this enormous rotating sculpture made out of Lego of course. Lego designers have best job!

Behind the Reception desk is a wall filled with mini-figures, there are absolutely thousands of them. I found it hard to concentrate on what the desk clerk was saying as I was mesmerised by the giant magnifying class that made it's way along the wall, highlighting all the figures. Imagine having a wall like that in your bedroom!

After a very full day in the park, we finally headed upstairs to our Pirate themed room. Once we stepped out of the lift, we discovered that the entire floor of the hotel looked the inside of a Pirate ship. Wallpaper covered in maps of the old world, timber beams...the carpet even had planks and see-through sections printed on it to make it look like you were really on top of the ocean!

In our room, the children had their own special section, with treasure chests, maps and loads of things to touch and play with. Max's favourite was the big tub of Lego for him to play with.

Even the bathroom was themed! There were 3D Lego models everywhere. The pirate hat on the wall and the hook and hairbrush on the shelf...all made of Lego.

On each of the children's beds there was an activity sheet for them to fill out. It asked them to find things like the number of gold coins printed on the carpet and how many starfish they could find. The answers to the questions gave them the combination to unlock this safe. Inside was a special pack of Lego just for them.

After we'd been at the park for most of the day, and we'd explored our room, the kids wanted to check out the pool and water play area. It was fabulous, but unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos and there was nowhere to sit and watch them swim, so Drew hopped in the pool and I got stuff ready upstairs.

Our next adventure involved dinner in the Bricks Restaurant. It was amazing! Again, everything was Lego and really geared towards children and families. I think kids over the age of 12 would find the whole thing a bit less inspiring but for my two at 6 and 8, it was perfection.

Everywhere you looked there were Lego sculptures all themed around food. Some of them were hilarious! They served a Buffet dinner with loads of choices for adults and children. The kids even had their own lowered bain-marie with non-fried kids food which was fabulous. They could go and get their own dinner independently which made them feel very grown up. The highlight of dinner was the self-serve ice-cream bar with an unlimited supply of syrups and toppings. Needless to say my kids went back for seconds...actually, we all did! We ate breakfast there the next morning and breakfast was equally impressive.

Everyone knows how hilarious a good fart noise is and the people at Lego didn't disappoint. They had a Whoopie Cushion printed on the carpet that made a variety of fart noises when stepped on and a lovely French sounding Lego man made comments like "Oh my God, you stinky pig" We could have stayed there farting all day!

Part 2 is coming up later on tonight. I'll add photos from the theme park as well.
